YOU VOTED FOR THE BIRNBECK REGENERATION TRUST AT TESCO!
The Birnbeck Regeneration Trust has now been notified that we have been selected as the winning entry in the local Tesco Bags of Help scheme. This means that we have been local nominated, by means of local in-store voting by the general public, for the highest amount of one of three awards - these being either £12,000, £10,000 or £8,000.
The money was requested for the fencing necessary to make the pathways safe along the coastal path to the north of Birnbeck Pier and the Pier Master's Cottage. This is a public footpath which until recently was completely overgrown after many years of neglect, and was cleared with the kind assistance of Lynch Plant Hire of Bridgwater in late October 2015.
From the Tesco/Groundwork publicity brief:
"Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork to launch its Bags of Help initiative across England and Wales. The scheme will see three community groups and projects awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge. Bags of Help offers community groups and projects in each of Tesco’s 390 regions across the UK a share of revenue generated from the five pence charge levied on single-use carrier bags. The public will now vote in store from 27 February until 6 March on who should receive the £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 awards."
Please see the Groundwork/Tesco Bags of Help homepage for further details.
We now look forward to opening the path in the very near future - please keep checking both this website and our Facebook Page for further updates.
VOTING RAN FROM 27 FEBRUARY TO 6 MARCH 2016!
THANK YOU FOR VOTING FOR THE BIRNBECK REGENERATION TRUST!
